REDBLACKS look to tame Leos at home

The Ottawa REDBLACKS will look to remain atop the CFL’s East Division when they welcome the B.C. Lions to TD Place on Friday evening.

Ottawa (2-2) is looking to bounce back after a loss to the Calgary Stampeders last week. BC, meanwhile, is coming in on a high after the Lions (2-2) came back from a 17-0 half-time deficit to win 20-17 on a walk-off field goal in front of their home crowd.

STORYLINES

Offence looking to bounce back – After an off night for the offense in their last game, expect Trevor Harris and his various offensive weapons to be hungry and fired up in this one.

Elimimian out – The Lions defensive stalwart Solomon Elimimian was placed on the six-game injured list with a wrist injury. His 26 defensive tackles rank him fourth in the league so far this season.

Turnovers key – In Ottawa’s two wins, they have committed only one turnover. Keeping that statistic intact while forcing some of their own will be key.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

The loss of Elimimian will certainly hurt Wally Buono’s defence and B.C. will have to fill the void by committee.

Bo Lokombo, who is back with the Lions after trying his luck in the NFL, is having a nice year alongside Elimimian at linebacker. Canadians Frederic Chagnon and Jordan Herdman are listed as the backups at middle linebacker, but DyShawn Davis should also see an increase in reps.

Offensively, Travis Lulay proved he can still compete at an elite level in the stunning comeback over the Bombers. To no one’s surprise, Bryan Burnham and Emmanuel Arceneaux were Lulay’s favorite targets in the game.

The duo of Chris Rainey and Jeremiah Johnson at running back is dangerous and will provide a challenge for the REDBLACKS defence.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

‘’We always expect everybody’s best effort, and I’m sure they do too. It was a big win to come from behind like that (in their last game) and one other thing I’m learning is that every week is a new week so whether you’re feeling up or down you have to re-load. We’ll worry about us and make sure we’re ready on our part.’’ – Coach Campbell

‘’Travis (Lulay) is a vet, he’ll make the right throws and find what he needs to find. He knows exactly where he’s going and what he’s doing, if you show him something different then you’re good but if not, he’s going to know where’s he’s going with the ball at all times.’’ – Loucheiz Purifoy
