REDBLACKS drop heartbreaker in BC

A strong road game turned to heartbreak for the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Saturday night, as the home town BC Lions mounted a late comeback to down the visitors 41-37 at BC Place.

The REDBLACKS jumped out to an early lead in this one thanks to field goals from kicker Lewis Ward, which set up a narrow, one-point lead for Ottawa the half. Ottawa would find another gear in the second half, as quarterback Dustin Crum found the end zone three times on a night where the rookie pivot would finish with 233 yards on 19 completed passes. Receiver Justin Hardy led the way for Ottawa with 114 yards on 13 receptions, while running back Devonte Williams ran for 66 yards.

Ottawa’s defence was disruptive in this one, leading to interceptions by Damon Webb, Sherrod Baltimore and Douglas Coleman, but ultimately the Lions were able to mount a late response that culminated in the winning touchdown with just seconds to play. BC quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. finished the game with 325 yards and three touchdowns, while Lions receivers Justin McInnis and Lucky Whitehead finished with 118 and 87 yards, respectively.

The REDBLACKS return home for their next contest when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday, September 22 at 7 PM at TD Place.
