The Ottawa REDBLACKS on Saturday announced that Head Coach Paul LaPolice has been relieved of his duties.
Bob Dyce will take on the role of Interim Head Coach through the rest of the season.
“I have enjoyed working with Paul and thank him for his contributions to this team over the past two seasons; today isn’t an easy day,” said REDBLACKS GM Shawn Burke. “In this business, sometimes a change is required to help move a team forward and that’s what we’ve done here. We’re fortunate to have a coach of Bob Dyce’s caliber and experience able to step up and take on this role.”
LaPolice was hired as the second head coach in REDBLACKS history in December 2019, though it would take another year until he would lead the team onto the field following the cancellation of the 2020 campaign. LaPolice has since put up a 6-22 record at the helm of the REDBLACKS.
“Paul is a excellent man who has put everything he has into this job. But, unfortunately, we haven’t won nearly enough games,” said OSEG CEO Mark Goudie. “We are committed to getting back to what RNation deserves which is exciting and winning football.”
The REDBLACKS return to practice this week in preparation of clash with the Alouettes in Montreal on Thanksgiving Monday.

Le ROUGE et NOIR d’Ottawa a annoncé samedi que l’entraîneur-chef Paul LaPolice a été relevé de ses fonctions.
“J’ai aimé travailler avec Paul et je le remercie pour ses contributions à cette équipe au cours des deux dernières saisons ; aujourd’hui n’est pas un jour facile”, a déclaré le DG du ROUGE et NOIR, Shawn Burke. “Dans ce métier, il faut parfois opérer un changement pour aider à faire avancer une équipe et c’est ce que nous avons fait ici. Nous avons la chance d’avoir un entraîneur du calibre et de l’expérience de Bob Dyce capable d’assumer ce rôle.”
LaPolice a été embauché en tant que deuxième entraîneur-chef de l’histoire du ROUGE et NOIR en décembre 2019, bien qu’il faille attendre une autre année avant qu’il ne mène l’équipe sur le terrain après l’annulation de la campagne 2020. LaPolice a depuis affiché une fiche de 6-26 à la tête du ROUGE et NOIR.
“Paul est un excellent homme qui a mis tout ce qu’il avait dans ce travail. Mais, malheureusement, nous n’avons pas gagné suffisamment de matchs “, a déclaré Mark Goudie, PDG de l’OSEG. “Nous sommes déterminés à revenir à ce que RNation mérite, c’est-à-dire un football passionnant et gagnant.”
Le ROUGE et NOIR reprend l’entraînement cette semaine en vue de son affrontement avec les Alouettes à Montréal le lundi de l’Action de grâce.
