OTTAWA – The Ottawa REDBLACKS further solidified their backfield on Tuesday as the club announced contract extensions for veteran defensive backs Abdul Kanneh and Randall Evans.
“Abdul is a proven winner in the CFL and Randall has gotten better each year and had a career season last year,” said General Manager Shawn Burke. “Both are excited to be part of the REDBLACKS organization and we’re happy they have decided to return to Ottawa for the 2022 season.”
A former CFL All-Star, injuries saw Kanneh limited to eight games during the 2021 season, but his impact was still felt. The 31 year-old notched three interceptions, including two that clinched the season opener against the Edmonton Elks, one of which Kanneh scored a touchdown on. He also recorded 28 tackles, in his seventh CFL season.
Evans, 30, suited up in 14 games for the REDBLACKS, during his third CFL campaign, all but one game of which has been with Ottawa. The Miami, Florida native registered career high’s in every statistical category; with 82 total tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
The 2022 CFL Free Agency period officially opens on February 8, 2022, at noon ET.

L’homme de 31 ans a réalisé trois interceptions, dont deux qui ont permis d’ouvrir la saison contre les Elks d’Edmonton, et sur lesquelles Kanneh a marqué un touché. Il a également enregistré 28 plaquages, à sa septième saison dans la LCF.
Evans, âgé de 30 ans, a participé à 14 matchs avec le ROUGE et NOIR au cours de sa troisième campagne dans la LCF, tous sauf un avec Ottawa. Le joueur originaire de Miami, en Floride, a enregistré des sommets en carrière dans toutes les catégories statistiques, avec 82 plaquages, quatre sacs, deux interceptions et deux fumbles forcés.
La période d’agence libre de la LCF 2022 s’ouvrira officiellement le 8 février 2022, à midi.
