Home sweet home

Not only does a nutty CFL schedule start to normalize for the REDBLACKS this week, the club will also spend some extended time playing in front of RNation at TD Place. Starting with Friday’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the REDBLACKS play two of their next three games and three of their next four at home. With just three points separating Ottawa from first in the East Division heading into Week 7, these home tilts against Winnipeg, Edmonton (August 10) and BC (August 26) could be crucial.

The Mighty D

Despite some early season struggles, the REDBLACKS defence has put up some solid numbers that are being noticed in the defensive statistics department. Canadian defensive lineman Zack Evans sits 11th in the CFL with three sacks on the year, while American linebacker Taylor Reed is fifth overall in defensive tackles with 31. Not to be outdone, rookie defensive lineman Jake Ceresna is off to a solid start with a sack and three pass knockdowns (the latter good for 10th in the league), while Arnaud Gascon-Nadon is tied for the CFL lead with 12 quarterback pressures to go along with a pair of sacks. Rose leads the CFL in pass knock downs with 7.

While the REDBLACKS haven’t jumped out to the record they wanted through the first six weeks of the season, the numbers being put up by quarterback Trevor Harris seem to indicate it’s just a matter of time before the wins start coming regularly. Through six games, Harris sits second in the CFL behind only Toronto’s Ricky Ray with 1,939 passing yards, which has led him to score a league leading 12 touchdowns.
