Damaso Munoz signs two-year extension

OTTAWA-GATINEAU – Middle linebacker Damaso Munoz has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football League.

The 29-year-old Miami, FL native recorded a team-leading 74 tackles (Ranked 11th in the CFL), managed four sacks and earned three forced fumbles.

Munoz also scored a touchdown on September 26 at TD Place for a 40-yard score after intercepting Argonauts quarterback Trevor Harris.

“Damaso has proven to be an extremely valuable member of the REDBLACKS, both on the field and in the locker room,” said REDBLACKS General Manager Marcel Desjardins. “We were among the top defensive teams thanks to his contributions and leadership and we are happy that he has decided to remain in Ottawa.”

Munoz, who was eligible for free agency next month, joined the REDBLACKS during their inaugural season in 2014 following a pre-season with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A linebacker from Rutgers University, Munoz began his professional career with the Edmonton Eskimos where he spent three season from 2011-2013.
