JUNE 28, 2026: OTTAWA REDBLACKS V MONTREAL ALOUETTES
It was a tale of two halves as the Ottawa REDBLACKS fell just short in Montreal, losing 37-35 to the Alouettes.
Ottawa’s offence struggled to move the ball to start the game, mustering only six points in the first half hour of action, but still the REDBLACKS were able to hold it to a two-score game heading into the break.
The offence came out for the second half firing on all cylinders, with Justin Hardy leading the way for all Ottawa receivers with seven receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown. Keelan White also left his mark on the game with six receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns, including an incredible catch over the Alouettes defender in the back corner of the end zone.
Head Coach and General Manager Ryan Dinwiddie cited the offence’s up-tempo approach to the second half as the main catalyst for the second-half turnaround. Quarterback Jake Maier said he’s looking forward to getting to build off the second half, but he notes that the club needs to start seeing results.
Maier finished the game 27/38 for 336 passing yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Greg Bell posted nine carries for 40 yards for the REDBLACKS after going down with a neck injury early in the game and returning to the action shortly after.
Kalil Pimpleton gave Ottawa a flash of hope in the dying seconds of the game, answering a Montreal field goal with an immediate 94-yard kickoff return touchdown with 40 seconds left in the game, to set up a crucial onside kick attempt that the REDBLACKS were unable to secure.
For the Alouettes, Tyson Philpot continued to build on his impressive 2026 season, posting 12 receptions for 198 yards, while the two-headed backfield threat of Stevie Scott III and Travis Theis combined for 15 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Davis Alexander registered 22 completions on 30 attempts for 345 yards with two touchdowns.
Linebacker Nyles Morgan led the way yet again for the REDBLACKS, posting nine defensive tackles. Cleyon Laing picked up the lone quarterback sack and defensive back Marcus Barnes, who was rotating in and out of the secondary, made his mark on the defensive end, registering four special teams tackles.
The REDBLACKS will be back at TD Place on Friday night to host the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders at 7:30 p.m. in the nation’s capital. Be sure to stick around after the game as the club is hosting its first-ever Silent Disco.
