REDBLACKS fall short in narrow loss to Tiger-Cats

The Ottawa REDBLACKS came up just short in a hard-fought battle on the road Saturday night, falling 23–20 to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Hamilton Stadium.

Ottawa opened the scoring early and looked poised to control the tempo, with quarterback Dru Brown connecting on key plays and the offense finding a rhythm. Brown hit rookie Keelan White for his first career CFL touchdown and the first touchdown of the game, marking a special milestone and giving Ottawa an early boost.

The REDBLACKS took a 10-4 lead into the half, but Bo Levi Mitchell connected on a 44-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Lawler, and a missed PAT left the game tied at 10-10.

Both teams traded field goals, before William Stanback hit pay dirt with a 23-yard touchdown run to close out the third quarter, putting Ottawa back on top 20-13.

The Ti-Cats converted on another field goal, however, and with the REDBLACKS unable to drain enough clock to put the game on ice, Mitchell found Lawler in the end zone again for the go-ahead score, and handing Ottawa a heartbreaker.

Now sitting at 1–5 on the season, the REDBLACKS will look to regroup and reset at home, as they look forward to a rematch against the Tiger-Cats on Sunday, July 20, at TD Place.
