The Ottawa REDBLACKS rallied from a tough start on Sunday, but ended up on the wrong side of a 39-33 score vs the Edmonton Elks on the road.
Dru Brown threw for 316 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, with Geno Lewis and Andre Miller finding the end zone. Kalil Pimpleton scored an electric 97-yard punt return touchdown, and Lewis Ward converted on all four of his field goal attempts.
The Elks scored a pair of early touchdowns by way of Tre Ford connecting passes to Justin Rankin, and Kurleigh Gittens Jr., and a kickoff single bringing them to a 15-0 lead.
A Javon Leake punt return score expanded on the Elks lead, but Lewis Ward converted on a field goal, and Brown connected with Lewis for a touchdown, just before Pimpleton’s heroics cut the deficit to 22-17 going into half.
Vincent Blanchard opened the scoring with a field goal for Edmonton, before Ward answered with two of his own.
The REDBLACKS outscored the Elks 10-7 in the corner, thanks to the Miller touchdown, but two field goals and single gave Edmonton enough of a cushion to survive, and deal Ottawa tough road loss.
Ottawa will look to bounce back on Saturday, when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a 7:00pm kickoff.
