REDBLACKS fall in Montreal

In their first of three meetings with the Montreal Alouettes, the Ottawa REDBLACKS fell by a score of 47-21.

The first half was a tough one for the REDBLACKS, with the Als starting strong, and keeping their foot on the pedal the entire way. They scored on their opening drive, before cashing in another major on a controversial interception.

The onslaught continued, and Ottawa struggled to find effective solutions to slow the Montreal offence, and move the ball themselves. Tyson Philpot proved a challenging subject for the depleted REDBLACKS secondary, racking up 127 yards through the air by the break.

The defending Grey Cup champs held a 30-1 lead at halftime.

The second half of the contest shook out slightly more on the REDBLACKS’ side, but still, it wasn’t enough. Outsourcing the Alouettes 20-17 in the final pair of quarters, Ottawa couldn’t find much of a foothold on the scoreboard.

Jaelon Acklin found the endzone once for the REDBLACKS, and Justin Hardy was once again incredibly effective, piling up 143 yards, bringing his season total to 254.

The REDBLACKS get their next chance at an East Division opponent next week, when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
