REDBLACKS Wrap Up Preseason Vs Argos In Guelph

The Ottawa REDBLACKS will get one final tuneup before their regular season opener, next week, and it will take place at Alumni Stadium in Guelph on Thursday night.

On the first night of June, the REDBLACKS will take on the Toronto Argonauts, in their last exhibition play of the 2023 CFL season. Kickoff goes at 7:00pm from the home of the Gryphons.

With many of their starters enjoying a well-earned reprieve before next week’s season opener, the Ottawa young guns will get a chance to prove themselves, as training camp comes to an end. Tyrie Adams will lead the REDBLACKS at quarterback, after an impressive showing a week ago, and he’ll be joined by national receivers Keaton Bruggeling, and rookie Daniel Oladejo, who hauled in a touchdown in the preseason opener.

The defensive staff will feature first-round Global selection, defensive lineman Blessman Ta’ala, making his first start, while second-year veteran national Alonzo Addae starts at safety.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:

After taking home the 108th Grey Cup, the Argos roll into the 2023 season with a new option at quarterback, in sophomore Chad Kelly. At receiver, the likes of DaVaris Daniels, Markeith Ambles will line up alongside him, with running back A.J. Ouellette making the start.

Toronto’s standout defenders will make the start in today’s game, as well, with names like Shawn Oakman, Royce Metchie, and Jordan Williams aiming to cause headaches for Adams and Co.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS:

Khari Jones, Offensive Coordinator, on the excitement of seeing the offence in action: “It’s only a simulation in practice, and you can only simulate so much, so it’ll be nice to see the offence under the lights. It was fun the first game, and I’m sure it’s gonna be good this next one.”

Demontre Tuggle, running back, on the chance to play in the CFL: “Me and my agent decided to look up here, and we felt this was a great opportunity. There’s some great football in the CFL. I’m blessed to be here.”

Joshua Valentine-Turner, defensive back, on the REDBLACKS’ crop of young secondary players: “We’ve got a lot of really good young DBs who are playing well and I can attribute it to our coach and our vets. They want to help us understand the nuances of the game. You hear stories, so sometimes you’re a little apprehensive to ask (for help). Here you didn’t even have to ask, help is offered. With the vets, (the message is) don’t second guess yourself. See it, believe it, trust yourself.
