REDBLACKS Face Off With Ticats

It’s “next man up” for the Ottawa REDBLACKS, Saturday, when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in search of their first win of the season.

With star quarterback Jeremiah Masoli set to miss the next 10-12 weeks, following a late, low hit by a Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive lineman, Caleb Evans will be under centre for Ottawa going into The Hammer. The 23 year-old appeared in eight games for the REDBLACKS in 2021, leading them to two of their three victories on the season, throwing for 1,279 yards.

Like the REDBLACKS, Hamilton is also 0-4 on the season, as the East Division struggles to find its collective footing. They were last in action on July 1, dropping a 29-25 decision to the Edmonton Elks. Quarterback Dane Evans threw for a touchdown to Steven Dunbar, while also being picked off twice.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

R.J. Harris, receiver, on the team’s focus despite their record: “I’m not worried about the next three games. We’re looking to go 1-0 on Saturday. That’s the most important thing; as long as we win this one, then we’ll worry about the next one. That’s our focus.”

Jaelon Acklin, receiver, on his return to Hamilton: “I’m not going to waste too much energy on it, this isn’t a revenge game to show I’m worth the money. I look myself in the mirror every night, I know I have to be better if we want to win. And whatever it takes to win, I’ll do it.”

Will Arndt, quarterbacks coach, on the mentality inside the REDBLACKS locker room: “We feel really good inside that locker room and there’s a lot of belief in what we’re doing. We’re close, even though our record doesn’t reflect it. I’m tired of moral victories, we know who we are and we have good faith in that – we’re going to be just fine.”
