We are officially less than 5 months away from REDBLACKS kicking off their 2020 CFL season. The boys welcome the Toronto Argonauts at home on Friday, June 12th at 7:00pm. We know you must be asking yourself “Is It June Yet?” and we are too. While we (im)patiently wait for the season to start, below are some key offseason dates to look forward to until the regular season is here.
PENDING FREE AGENT NEGOTIATION WINDOW – Sunday, February 2 – Sunday, February 9
A new addition thanks to the new CBA, teams will have a week prior to the opening of Free Agency to communicate with pending free agents and make formal offers until Sunday, February 9 at noon ET.
FREE AGENCY OPENS – Monday, February 11
The CFL Free Agency window officially opens, allowing the REDBLACKS to formally sign free agents and add new faces to their roster for 2020.
NATIONAL CFL COMBINE – March 26-28
The top university talent in the country will descend upon Toronto to showcase their talents to teams across the CFL in hopes of securing a selection in April’s draft.
CFL GLOBAL DRAFT – April 16
As part of expanding the Canadian Football League across the globe, all teams are required to have one global player (players coming from outside Canada and the United States) on its roster and one on its practice at all times. The CFL Global Draft provides teams with the opportunity to select these players. The REDBLACKS currently hold the number one overall pick in the CFL Global Draft.
CFL DRAFT – April 30
The CFL’s future stars will take a big step in their careers when they get the call from one of nine teams. The REDBLACKS currently hold the number one overall pick in the draft.
U SPORTS EAST-WEST BOWL – May 9
The best juniors in U Sports will compete in an All-Star game held in Ottawa, played at Carleton University.
ROOKIE CAMPS OPEN – May 13
All REDBLACKS rookies will report to TD Place to begin their CFL careers and fight to get a permanent spot on the roster.
CFL ROSTERS REDUCED TO 85 – May 16
All teams are required to set their 85 man roster.
TRAINING CAMPS OPEN – May 17
The remaining REDBLACKS players will arrive in Ottawa to begin preparations for the 2020 CFL season.
CFL ROSTERS REDUCED TO 75 – May 19
All teams are required to set their 75 man roster ahead of the 2020 CFL Draft.
PRE-SEASON GAMES – May 29, June 4
The REDBLACKS will start of their pre-season at home against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, May 29th and then hit the road for one other pre-season tune up against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Hamilton on Thursday, June 4th.
