REDBLACKS turn to Ardnt against Argos

Quarterback Will Ardnt is poised to make his first career CFL start when the Ottawa REDBLACKS visit the Toronto Argonauts in a CFL East Division matchup on Friday night at BMO Field.

While Ardnt has gotten spot duty in relief at times this season, Friday will mark the first time he has taken the game’s snaps. So far this year, Ardnt has completed 20 of 36 passes for 185 yards.

Meanwhile, the REDBLACKS as a whole continue to search for answers while trying to string together a few wins in the final weeks of the regular season. The game will also be an opportunity for Ottawa to avenge a lopsided defeat the last time they played the Argos, with Toronto picking up a 46-17 win.

The REDBLACKS will play on the road the entire month of October – in Hamilton next week followed by a rematch in Toronto – before closing out the season at home on November 1 against the Montreal Alouettes.

Scouting the opposition

Similar to the REDBLACKS, this hasn’t been an easy season for the Argonauts. The Argos sit last in the East with two wins on the year and have lost their last three in a row. The Argos have also been outscored 422-238 on the year. Derel Walker, a bright spot for the Argos this year, leads the way for Toronto with 1,016 yards on 62 catches this season, while S.J. Green has chipped in with 727 yards.

Storylines

  • REDBLACKS receiver Dominique Rhymes could hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his CFL career as early as Friday. He heads into the game with 950 yards and three touchdowns on 59 catches.
  • Despite currently being injured, linebacker Avery Williams continues to lead Ottawa in defensive tackles with 69. Anthony Cioffi and Chris Randle sit in second with 47 each.
  • Nigel Romick and Jean-Philippe Bolduc continue to set the tone on special teams, with 16 and 15 tackles, respectively.
  • The Argonauts announced Tuesday that the club had parted ways with GM Jim Popp.
  • Former REDBLACKS currently with the Argos include DB Abdul Kanneh, DL Cleyon Laing, K Ronnie Pfeffer and K Zack Medeiros.
