Powell, Ward named CFL Players of the Month for September

The Canadian Football League announced Wednesday that REDBLACKS running back William Powell and kicker Lewis Ward have been named two of the CFL’s Shaw Top Performers of the Month for September.

Powell continued his torrid pace this season in September when the CFL’s leading rusher carried the ball for a combined 377 yards in three games, including back-to-back performances of more than 140 yards. Powell currently leads the CFL with 1,141 yards on 208 carries, while also chipping in with 293 receiving yards on 37 passes.

Ward, meanwhile, is still hot on the trail of the all-time CFL record of 39 consecutive field goals. Currently sitting at 36-straight successful field goal attempts, Ward tied his season high of seven during a Week 15 Ottawa win over Edmonton. In September, Ward hit 10 of 10 field goals over three games.

Powell, Ward and the rest of the REDBLACKS will return from their final bye week of the season when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night at TD Place at 7:30 p.m.
