Introducing the REDBLACKS 2018 draft class

The Ottawa REDBLACKS welcomed seven new players into the organization in Thursday’s 2018 CFL Draft.

The REDBLACKS kicked things off by selecting University of Alberta offensive lineman Mark Korte with their first-round, fourth-overall selection.

“We were able to address a number of needs we had identified heading into the coming season and we’re very happy with the players we brought into the fold,” said REDBLACKS GM Marcel Desjardins. “We’re confident that many of the players we selected tonight will be contributors to the Ottawa REDBLACKS for years to come.”

Here is a recap of the REDBLACKS’ 2018 draft:

Round 1, 4th overall
Mark Korte, OL, Alberta
The 6-foot-2, 293-pound Korte had a big season for the University of Alberta last year and was named Canada West’s most outstanding offensive lineman.

Round 2, 13th overall
Marco Dubois, WR, Laval
The 6-foot-4, 217-pound receiver made a name for himself at this year’s CFL combine. The Laval product finished atop three of the major testing categories, running a 4.56 hand time in the 40 and topping both the Broad and Vertical Jump.

Round 3, 22nd overall
Andrew Pickett, OL, Guelph
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Kitchener native was twice named an OUA Second Team All-Star and served as a captain while with the Gryphons.

Round 4, 29th overall (acquired from BC)
Kene Onyeka, DL, Carleton
The 6-foot-2, 244-pound defensive end had 39 tackles and 10.5 sacks to go along with four forced fumbles with the Ravens last year.

Round 4, 30th overall
Mickael Cote, LB, Concordia
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker had 50.5 tackles in seven games for Concordia last season.

Round 7, 55th overall
Justin Howell, DB, Carleton
The 5-foot-9, 199-pound Howell had 30 tackles in seven games for the Carleton Ravens last season.

Round 8, 64th overall
Jacob Czaja, OL, St. Francis Xavier
The 6-foot-3, 295-pound Sudbury native was a mainstay on the offensive line during his four-plus seasons with the X-Men.
