REDBLACKS, RNation raise 37,746 pounds for the Ottawa Food Bank through Purolator Tackle Hunger Program

The Ottawa REDBLACKS and RNation opened the 15th year of the Purolator Tackle Hunger Program raising 37,746 pounds of food for the Ottawa Food Bank. Purolator employees, REDBLACKS players, OSEG staff and RNation teamed up to help set a new record for Ottawa that they’ll look to increase next Saturday (July 15) when Ottawa Fury FC host the Rochester Rhinos for their Purolator Tackle Hunger match.

The Purolator Tackle Hunger program raises awareness, food and funds for local food banks across Canada. At one game in every Canadian Football League city, Purolator organizes a Game Day Food Drive and encourages fans to drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation in support of food banks in their communities.

“RNation not only supports this team, but the Ottawa-Gatineau community too. Sports is all about a group of people coming together for a common goal and we’re proud of RNation and our players for their work and being such strong ambassadors in supporting the Purolator Tackle Hunger program, which is vital to our community.”
– Bernie Ashe, CEO, Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG)

“Our Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drives raised 37,746 pounds of food for Ottawa Food Bank thanks to the amazing support from Ottawa football fans. With your support we are able to help put food on tables in communities in Ottawa and surrounding areas.”
– John Ferguson, President and CEO, Purolator

“Support from both Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drives comes at an important time for the Ottawa Food Bank, as our food and monetary donations are at their lowest during the summer months. These eventsbrings our community together and we’re appreciative of the generosity from Purolator, the Ottawa REDBLACKS, the Ottawa Fury FC, and all the fans. Thank you for helping us provide the best food possible to our neighbours.”
– Michael Maidment, Executive Director, Ottawa Food Bank
