REDBLACKS sign 2016 draft selections

OTTAWA-GATINEAU – The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced on Tuesday that seven players selected in the 2016 CFL have been signed to contracts.

“We’re happy to have finalized agreements with these seven young men and look forward to watching them develop into REDBLACKS players as of this Wednesday and for many years to come,” said General Manager Marcel Desjardins.

The REDBLACKS selected offensive lineman and Laval native Jason Lauzon-Séguin with their first pick, seventh overall, in the draft. Lauzon-Séguin is one of seven draft selections signed by the REDBLACKS with rookies set to report to for pre-training camp medicals on Wednesday.

The REDBLACKS also announced the signings of the following players:

  • Mikaël Charland, DB, drafted 2nd round, 16th overall (Concordia, 6-foot-4, 216 pounds)
  • Kevin Jackson, LB, drafted 4th round, 34th overall (Sam Houston State, 5-foot-11, 230 pounds)
  • Randy Beardy, OL, drafted 5th round, 43rd overall (Windsor, 6-foot-7, 290 pounds)
  • Kyle Fraser-Audit, OL, drafted 6th round, 45th overall (via Saskatchewan) (Guelph, 6-foot-5, 283 pounds)
  • Arto Khatchikian, LB, drafted 7th round, 54th overall (via Saskatchewan) (Concordia, 6-feet, 220 pounds)
  • Guillaume Tremblay-Lebel, LB, drafted 8th round, 69th overall (Laval, 6-foot-1, 220 pounds)

The REDBLACKS play two preseason games this season; the first at TD Place against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on June 13, followed by road date in Hamilton against the Tiger-Cats on June 17.

The team begins the regular season in Edmonton on Saturday, June 25 before the home opener on Friday, July 8 against the Calgary Stampeders. Fewer than 4,000 tickets remain for that game.
