5 reasons to visit Lansdowne this weekend

After playing just one of their first five games at home so far this season, the REDBLACKS kick off an extended run of games at TD Place when they host the Toronto Argonauts on Sunday night. As always, there will be no shortage of things to do in and around the stadium when you visit Lansdowne. Here are just a few ideas:

Be part of history
You’ll be getting more than just a football game if you come out to cheer on the REDBLACKS on Sunday. Just before kick-off, a historic announcement will be made on the field. No REDBLACKS game should be missed live, but if there’s one to come to in the first half of the season, it’s this one.

Relive the glory days
It’s been exactly 40 years since an Ottawa football team last captured the Grey Cup and that milestone will be celebrated before Sunday’s game. Many of the players from the 1976 championship-winning team will be on hand, including Tony Gabriel, who caught what become known as “The Catch” to clinch the win for the Ottawa Rough Riders. To celebrate, a ’76 Grey Cup party will be held in the Arena at TD Place starting at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Grey Cup will also make an appearance!

Patio livin’
If you’re planning to come to the game early or stay late, you won’t go hungry … or thirsty. With great summer weather on tap, head over to one of Lansdowne’s many restaurant and bar options, several of which boat impressive patio setups. The newest patio offering belongs to Craft, while favourites like Local, Joey’s, Milestones, Crust and Crate and Jack Astor’s also offer great outdoor dining options.

Support local soccer
Before the REDBLACKS and Argos go at it on Sunday, Ottawa Fury FC will take to the field at TD Place to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Fury FC is in the midst of a two-game winning streak and the club’s fan base has become an integral part of Fury’s success.

First place?
There’s no question that every REDBLACKS game is a big one, but that is magnified against a divisional opponent, particularly against the Argos. The two teams are in a dogfight for top spot in the East Division and after Ottawa walked away with a win in the first meeting of the year between the teams, Toronto will be hungry on Sunday. A win for Ottawa would win the REDBLACKS the season series against Toronto, which could have huge playoff implications late in the season.
