Sinopoli inducted into the University of Ottawa’s Hall of Fame

On the heels of being awarded the Syl Apps Athlete of the Year Award by the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, REDBLACKS receiver Brad Sinopoli has been honoured again – this time by his Alma matter.

Sinopoli, who was also named the CFL’s top Canadian following a breakout 2015 season, was inducted into the University of Ottawa’s Hall of Fame last weekend at the school’s annual Touchdown Dinner.

Sinopoli is just six years removed from a record-setting season with the Gee-Gees in which he won the 2010 Hec Crighton as the top player in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. Sinopoli was a star quarterback at the time, prior to his transformation into a top CFL receiver.

Upon his induction into the school’s Hall of Fame, Sinopoli offered up a lesson in the importance of sticking with things, even when they aren’t going your way.

“I almost quit in my first year, after the first few days of camp,” Sinopoli recalled. “I’m sure a lot of guys go through this but I kept messing up – I was awful. I called my dad and said I wanted to quit but he convinced me to stay.”

The rest, as they say, is football history.

“I didn’t think I was going to end up as the starter – I was just hoping to make the team, then hoping to dress,” said Sinopoli, who set a school record in 2010 with 2,756 passing yards and 22 touchdowns in eight games. “You only realize later the things you can do. And my team mates felt similar. No one had a huge ego and we built up a comfort. We had to go through it all together and we were on the same page, mentally.”

Sinopoli will kick off his second season with the REDBLACKS later this month when training camp officially gets underway.
