OTTAWA– Henry Burris made history Thursday night in the REDBLACKS CFL regular-season debut, an exciting 36-28 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Not only did the veteran throw the REDBLACKS first ever touchdown to running back Chevon Walker in the first five minutes of the game, he also surpassed Ottawa Roughriders legend Russ Jackson on the CFL’s all-time rushing yards list for a quarterback.

Burris rushed for a total of 20 yards against the Blue Bombers bringing his career total to 5,053, 8 more than Jackson.

Jackson played 12-years with the Rough Riders in the 50s and 60s winning three Grey Cups. Some of his accomplishment are five-time passing yards leader (season) and four-time pass attempt leader (season) but he now falls to fifth in all-time rushing yards by a quarterback.

Burris, now in his 15th CFL season, is fourth on the list, needing only 200 more yards to surpass third ranked Jackie Parker. However, Burris has a long way to go to sit atop the list as former Roughrider Damon Allen holds the title with an astonishing 11,920 all-time yards in his 23 seasons in the CFL.

Burris’ next opportunity to run the ball will be July 11th against the Edmonton Eskimos at Commonwealth Stadium.
